Sapa - City of Clouds

Me and Em in Sapa
Dodgy signs, perhaps I won't drive my car on the edge! Pretty hairy roads and cliffs but.

FUIC

People keep sending me this, I take it it's done the rounds @ home. Maybe they're telling me I'll turn into this should I keep drinking it. I must assure you that I only have 1 a week, max. Maybe I'll stop it altogether now.

Some ramblings, yo.

Nothing really that important to post. We're going to Sapa on the train tomorrow, north towards the Chinese border. Bought another backpack for the journey last night, rather sweet at 165000 VND, which is about 14 bucks aussie. I'll prolly Ebay it when I get back, but I just needed something bigger than my laptop baggy to travel with. Still not used to this damn hot weather, not sure I would cope without aircon in the house. Been keeping it quiet on buying stuff, though I am thinking of some more sneakers before I return. Didn't bring enough of my tailored shirts with me, as they're the most comfortable in this weather. Polos seem a bit thick for the heat, but that's life. We're thinking of hiring motorbikes, though I'm a bit apprhensive to get a Minsk. I like the auto bikes and scooters, ever since I crashed a motorbike the first time I rode one. Been listening to new Jurrasic 5 and Cut Chemist LP's and watching a damn load of 6 Feet Under again. Up to date with Entourage, which is killing me, I need more episodes now dammit!! Boondocks is OK.

More pics

Craziness
Had a massive downpour the other day, I didn't realize this was their 'buildup', which explains why it's so damn hot. This is a shot of Em making the most of the water, to clean her balcony which was really dusty. I ended up having to get up MacGuyver style and tying her gutter up as it gave way under the amount of water and was quickly filling into the house.
Em, doing the robot! :)

My beautiful lady

I think one of the best photos I have of Em.

Koto and the Barracuda

Em and I after dinner at
  • KOTO
  • A place where they teach street kids hospitality. The food was magnificent and the service was fantastic. A really positive example of helping the less fortunate. Entrees, mains, desert, cocktails, wine and coffee cost us about 40 bucks. Awesome. Later we walked home and had a few more drinks and went onto Dragonfly (A bar I'm meant to DJ at later in the week) and Barracuda, the Expat bar. Messy night and I was feeling rather ill on Sunday. I went to bed hugging a bucket. The top photo tells me "You need to diet, seriously"

    Odd Pics

Just some odd pics that I've taken, nothing spectacular, but shit I just don't do at home. I find going to another place other than the one where you dwell always makes you look at everyday stuff in a new light.

    Chillin'

Well, ust enjoying the warm weather wandering about Hanoi. It's a bit cooler today as it's overcast, but I'd think still in the 30's. Hopefully all the sweating means I might lose some weight :) Sitting in a cafe called Puku atm, just had a nice open sanga and a coffee and freshly squeezed OJ. Gotta love the fact that they have wireless, but I'm actually using another network I found as it's quicker, and downloading the new Cut Chemist LP as I write this. Sweet. Been awaiting this with much anticipation as he's been developing into one of the best DJ/producer/cutnpaste type of people on the planet. Ever sine I heard him on Return of the DJ and the Lesson 6 he created for the first J5 EP.
Ems at work today, so kickin' back and cruising about is cool by me, though going out with my backpack makes me a target for all the street vendors and cylco / xe om drivers. I find it better to not wear my sunnies as they think I have some Viet in me, which lessens the attention. But I forgot my camera, damn, as there's always cool shit to take photos of and the engrish makes me laugh.
Hope everyone at home is well and keeping warm. I'm missing the cold at night when I go to bed, but not that much :)

    Downtown Hanoi

Having a drink downstairs @ Highway4. I love the root in the jars, Ginseng we think.

    The Insect Menu.

Em chosing what insect she'd like to devour next, Stink Bugs perhaps ??

    Me at Highway4 . . .

The Highway4 kitchen which you walk over to go to the upstairs dining areas. I love how you do this type of shit in Asia, I think all the laws and regulations in Australia make for too many overheads and expensive dining.

    KL

Well, I'm back in Vietnam for a new Tour of Duty. But I met up with my good mate Code, who lives in Singapore. He came over to meet me for the day. And also met up with Ali, her holusemate, to get Ems housekeys and with Dan and Phil, two more volunteers from Oz living in Vietnam. Had a great night out drinking and eating great food. You just can't beat satays in Malaysia! Familiar faces in strange palces.

A wicked builging with a helipad on top.

    We won the World Cup!

The Hawker stall where we ate,I'd never had stingray before, delicious

    Sweet and Sour

Well, I'm off to Vietnam this week to see my baby. So y'all, been a bit hectic and busy to take time out and post. Been watching lots of the World Cup. Very sad to see Australia knocked out in that style, but that's the drama of football. Hopefully mosst Aussies will understand it now. But it's great to see so many people following who would have never have watched the game before. My 'other' team England went out on penalties and Becks has resigned as captain. My call is for the man, Steven Gerrard to lead them now.

    More pics real soon.
